Velvet Grain Film is a creative project based in Central Queensland on Darumbal Land and a locally owned film store built from a love of storytelling and analogue craft. What began as one camera and a passion for photography has grown into a space where nostalgia, artistry and community come together, both behind the lens and across the counter.

Photography is at the heart of everything we do. It is where Velvet Grain Film began, capturing people, connection and moments as they naturally unfold. We work exclusively with vintage mediums including 35mm film, Super 8, camcorders and Polaroids, creating imagery with a timeless cinematic feel. Every frame is created intentionally, embracing grain, light leaks, soft tones and the imperfections that make film so beautifully honest.

Alongside our sessions, Velvet Grain Film operates as a one stop local film destination. Stocking one of the largest ranges of 35mm film in Central Queensland, including rare and hard to find stocks, we support both seasoned shooters and those just starting out. From helping you choose the right roll to offering development and high quality scans through trusted professional labs, the process is simple, accessible and crafted with care.

We offer creative shoots, cinematic portraits, couples sessions, family shoots, engagements, weddings, boudoir and editorial work that celebrate both everyday magic and unforgettable milestones. Every roll is thoughtfully selected, developed, scanned and returned, creating something tangible you can hold onto.
